About Us
William Dunphy – Funeral Director opened in June 1996 at our original branch at 294 Brockley Road. At first there were just two staff, Rev Bill Dunphy and Nicki, his daughter but they were soon joined by others including Nicki’s son Will who is the main conductor and arranger.
There are now have several other full-time members of staff, Keith, Ross, John, Dean, Jeanette & Sue as well as part-timers & 3 florists, Julie, Hayley & Lisa who run our flower shop, Bellenden Florist in Peckham, SE15.
The company moved across the road to new, larger premises at 321 Brockley Road in December 2016 and opened a branch in East Dulwich in 2019.
Bill Dunphy retired from the company in June 2023 and Nicki now owns the entire business. Bill still carries out funeral services in his capacity as a minister of religion.
We undertake funerals for people of all denominations, faiths and those with no faith. Increasingly we arrange funerals with Humanist or non-religious, secular celebrants. Following the Covid pandemic, we have seen a move towards simpler, greener and direct funerals and are happy to undertake these as well as the more elaborate or traditional services.
Over the years we have arranged many overseas repatriations by air, sea and road and this is an important part of our business.
We are are a friendly, knowledgeable group who do our utmost to look after the families who entrust the care of their loved ones to us.
Both branches are drop-off sites for the Lewisham & Southwark foodbanks.
Sue from our East Dulwich branch runs a fortnightly 'Knit & Natter' group along with our long-term friend Rose, which has now made 100's if not 1000's, of knitted & crocheted items for the local clothing bank, homeless & refugee charities and hospitals. Cake features very highly in the activities and it's a friendly, sociable group.
