V A Peterson Funeral Service Ltd. is a long-established family business, located in Cwmbran, South Wales, which has served its surrounding communities with distinction spanning four generations of the Peterson family.
V A Peterson Funeral Service Ltd. is a long-established family business, located in Cwmbran, South Wales, which has served its surrounding communities with distinction for nearly one hundred years, spanning four generations of the Peterson family. The history of the company can be traced back to the 1920s, when Arthur Peterson established what was then a building company. Before long, Arthur was joined by his son, Virgil, and eventually by Virgil’s wife, Olive, as the business evolved into a labour of love for the Petersons.
In the years that followed, the business’ operations expanded to include funeral services. Soon, Virgil made the decision that the two distinct operations should operate as separate enterprises, eventually giving rise to V A Peterson Funeral Service. In 1959, the company moved into its current location of Woodside House; a property situated amidst six acres of parkland. This serene location quickly proved to be ideal for both the Peterson family and the business, which continued to grow at a time of rapid expansion for the town as a whole.
Virgil and Olive Peterson successfully juggled the competing demands of running the business and bringing up their children, Bryn and Clive. Following Virgil’s passing in 1970, Olive continued to support her sons as they took over the reins, motivated by a desire to develop the company’s glowing reputation, turning V A Peterson Funeral Service into a synonym for quality in the local area, and put their own stamp on the family business.
In 1984, Clive’s son, David Peterson, entered the fray, and he was later joined by Bryn’s children Aime and Ross marking the start of the latest chapter in the storied history of V.A. Peterson Funeral Services Ltd. Today, Clive, Bryn and David each possess Diplomas in Funeral Arranging and Funeral Directing (Dip.FD) and are fully fledged Members of the British Institute of Funeral Directors (MBIFD).
