T Hadley & Co was founded in 1895 by Thomas Hadley, then passed to his grandson Les Hadley in the late 1940s. After being based in New John Street, Blackheath since the early 1900s, the office moved to a more prominent position in the High Street in 2011. T Hadley & Co. was then acquired by N. E. Downing (Blackheath) Ltd. in October 2016. Les Hadley was the cousin of Doris Downing, wife of Norman Eric, so it seems fitting that the two companies are together again.
Branch manager Melanie Unwin, oversees the day to day running of the office as well as looking after families on the day of the funeral. She is assisted by funeral administrator Angela Humphries.
The premises have a private chapel of rest, allowing families to spend time with their loved ones, and a private arranging office. There is free parking available on the High Street.
The office is open from Monday to Friday between 9am to 5pm, though we are always available to answer enquiries 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
