Welcome to Ian Skett Funeral Services,
“Born and raised in Erdington, I have dedicated almost 30 years of my life caring for the bereaved of Birmingham.
After many years gaining experience throughout the industry as a whole, I truly believe that when someone dies, regardless of who they are, they deserve a compassionate, caring and dignified service.
Being entrusted with the final act of remembrance for a loved one is an honour.
I feel truly privileged to be able to serve my local community and surrounding area within the funeral home I personally built with my father, family and friends. I am now available to guide you, ‘Hand in Hand, Step by Step’, through this most difficult of times and beyond.” – Ian
Ian’s career has covered all aspects of the funeral profession and he is a familiar face around Birmingham.
His career started in 1989 working for A Hazel and Sons and EF Edwards in Erdington (now part of the large Dignity group). Starting at the bottom he worked his way up to become a funeral director, arranging and conducting many family funerals in and around Birmingham.
Ian’s passion for the funeral industry grew and in 2004, he moved to Birmingham City Council, Bereavement Services to increase his experience and knowledge in the ‘other side’ of his profession.
Working as a foreperson and trainer within Bereavement Services, Ian’s knowledge and focus then dealt with the very final act of committal. Whether it be burial or cremation, Ian organised and conducted services at many of the Birmingham City Council cemetery and crematoria sites around the City, whilst passing his knowledge and experience to others in his role as a recognised qualified trainer for the section. He qualified as a Cremator technician in 2005.
Such experience and knowledge has put Ian in the unique position as one of the only funeral directors in the country to have worked in this specialised care from beginning to end arranging the initial funeral service, through to the final act of committal whether it be burial or cremation.
Ian is available in person to share his knowledge and experience with those bereaved, and to make personal arrangements for your loved one, ensuring they are remembered with dignity and respect.
